Accessibility statement

The reference is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), version 2.2, level AA, the level Spanish law requires of public bodies and the one adopted as the standard in the private sector.

This statement is voluntary: Royal Decree 1112/2018 applies to the public sector and does not bind a restaurant. It is published because the accessibility of the menu determines whether it can be read at all.

It describes the state of the website on the date shown at the end, not a planned objective.

The project includes a set of automated tests that open the pages of the site in a real browser and analyse them with axe, the reference tool for detecting accessibility problems. On the date shown at the end of this page, none of them returns any violations.

The analysis is run at two screen widths, one mobile and one desktop, because the header presents different elements at each.

There are also checks that prevent the site from being built: a missing translation in any of the three languages, a malformed price on the menu or an image loaded from another domain without being declared will halt the process. These are not accessibility tests, but they close the routes by which accessible content stops being accessible.

Automated tools detect only some of the problems. The rest has been reviewed manually: a full pass through the site with the keyboard, contrast values verified one by one and a reading of the markup a screen reader receives. The evaluation is a self-assessment carried out by the development team.

The measures with the greatest effect on the experience of those who cannot use the website in the usual way are the following:

• The menu is published as text rather than as an image: the 182 dishes and their prices can be read aloud, searched, enlarged and copied.
• The whole site can be navigated with the keyboard, in the order in which it reads, and the element with focus is always visible: a gold outline with a contrast ratio of 10.2 to 1 against the background.
• The first element to receive focus is a link that jumps straight to the content, so there is no need to pass through the whole navigation on every page.
• Contrast values have been verified one by one and none falls below the 4.5 to 1 ratio required by criterion 1.4.3, including on the flat colour bands.
• The diet marks on the menu (vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free) are not conveyed by colour alone: each carries its name in text for anyone listening to the page.
• With the reduced motion preference enabled in the operating system, animations are disabled entirely and transitions between pages are immediate.
• The site works without JavaScript: the mobile navigation menu opens, the menu can be read, the opening hours can be consulted and the gallery photographs open at full size, each at its own address.
• Measurements across the site are expressed in relative units, so content grows when the browser text size is increased. An automated test verifies this at 16, 20 and 24 pixels.
• No function depends on a complex gesture: anything that can be done by dragging can also be done with a single tap. Tap targets meet criterion 2.5.8; the side index icons do so through the target spacing exception rather than by size.
• Every image carries a description written specifically for it, and decorative images are marked as such so that screen readers skip them.

The following content does not reach the level of conformance stated above:

• The menu page includes two automatic animations with no pause control, as required by criterion 2.2.2: a strip of dish photographs that scrolls by itself and a background of bubbles drawn on a canvas. With the reduced motion preference enabled, both stay still and the photographs are browsed manually.
• The menu does not yet state the fourteen allergens subject to mandatory declaration. That information must be provided by the restaurant dish by dish and will be published as text, never inside an image.
• The booking system and the map are third-party services and their accessibility is not within the owner’s control. For that reason an alternative is always offered: a contact telephone number and the address in text.
